Non-Violent Political Action examines the history of non-violent political action and its theoretical foundations. Students will read original works by such political activists as William Lloyd Garrison, Henry David Thoreau, Alice Paul, Mahatma Gandhi, and Martin Luther King. The course will look at several case studies, notably the NAZI resistance in Europe, India independence movement, the anti-apartheid resistance in South Africa, the Arab Spring movement, and Leymah Gbowee the Women of Liberia Mass Action for Peace.
