OpenAthens

All about the Lewis Library's transition from EZproxy to OpenAthens for accessing online resources..

Accessing Library Resources Using OpenAthens

When trying to access Library online resources regardless of whether you are on campus or off campus, you will be prompted to log in using your Lewis University credentials through OpenAthens.

When you click on a link to a Library database, journal article, ebook, etc., a page will open with a URL that begins with https://login.openathens.net/ and may look like this:

OpenAthens Sign In Page

Log in using your Lewis University username (NOT your email address) and password. This is the same login you use for MyLewis or Blackboard.

Accessing Library Resources Directly from Publisher Websites

Some publishers allow you to log into OpenAthens without going through a link from the Library's search or database A-Z list. Please note that this method only works if it is a publisher or resource to which the Library subscribes!

Every publisher is different, but here is one example for JoVE: Journal of Visual Experiments:

1. From https://www.jove.com/ click on Sign In in the upper right of the homepage.

JoVE SignIn

2. On the JoVE sign in page, select "Continue with Shibboleth/Open Athens."

3. Select Lewis University from the drop-down list of institutions.

4. Then you will see the Lewis University OpenAthens login screen, and you can log in with your university credentials.
