Students can check out the ring light kit for an initial loan period of two weeks, with one two-week renewal. The ring light cannot be loaned for longer than one month.

Per the equipment contract, if the ring light is not returned by 7 days after its due date, the item will be considered Lost.

  • The student's Library account will be fined the replacement cost ($90.00)
  • A block will be created barring any additional Library material loans (including all Library materials such as books, study room keys/materials, etc.)
  • The fine and block are removed after the Lost item is returned.

Any student who returns a Lost ring light will be barred from loaning the ring light from the Library for one full semester beginning on the date of return. Students with current Lost loans may not loan any additional Library materials or equipment.

The ring light kit comes with the ring light, a cord, a wall adapter, a tripod and bag, and a tripod adapter. You are responsible for the ring light and all kit pieces. If any are missing or damaged, you will be charged replacement costs.

When can I check out the ring light again?

After returning the ring light, you only have to wait 1 day before you can loan it again.

We wait 1 day to ensure that other patrons have the chance to loan the ring light if they have been waiting. If the ring light is available the day after you return it, you can loan it again.

In the Kit

What's included in the ring light kit? Why?

The kit contains the ring light, a cord, a wall adapter, a tripod, a tripod bag, and a tripod adapter, all inside a carrying case. We know it's quite a few pieces, but all are necessary to make sure you can use the ring light however you need.

If you're familiar with tripod mounts, you might not need any more info. If you want some guidance on attaching everything, see the images with instructions below.

How to Use

Each knob, dial, and locking mechanism has a purpose. The first thing you want to do is get your tripod set up at the ideal height. Each leg has a few telescoping extensions with locks for each one. Make sure you close the locks again once you've got the tripod adjusted, or the whole thing could fall over. You also want to make sure your tripod is near a regular or USB outlet, as the ring light will need a power source.

Once the tripod is in place, you can attach the light and/or photography device.

How do I attach the ring light to the tripod?

To attach only the ring light, attach the tripod mount to the bottom screw-hole of the light.

When you're finished, plug the ring light in using the cord and wall adapter. Once plugged in, use the touch buttons on the light to operate.

How do I attach my phone or camera?

You will need to use the phone mount included with the ring light kit to add your phone to the setup.

Attach the ring light first, as shown above; then, decide how you want to mount your phone. The phone mount has two screw-holes. You can use either one to attach the mount to the ring light. One offers more stability, while the other centers your phone in the light and allows you to tilt your device if needed.

Once you've decided how to mount your phone, attach the screw in the bottom of the ring light to the desired screw-hole in the phone mount.

If you want to add one of our cameras to this setup, you do not need to use the phone mount.

Find the hole on the bottom of the camera and line up with the screw on the bottom of the ring light. Make sure you tighten the screw completely to stabilize the camera.

Note: the camera is too big to fit perfectly within the ring light. The light and camera will need to "face" slightly different angles in order for both to be mounted on the same tripod. If that doesn't work for you, we recommend checking out our separate tripod for the camera.

Something not working?

If any piece of equipment is not working as expected, it is in your best interest to bring it back to the Circulation Desk as soon as possible. This ensures that you are not assumed at fault for any item damage (physical or technical).

Depending on the equipment, we may be able to swap pieces or parts to ensure it is in working condition. Otherwise, we will be able to help you get the equipment working as intended.
