The Assignment

The purpose of this project is to examine and analyze the spectrum of Diagnostic Imaging and appreciate how different modalities are used to identify and diagnose a particular pathology and present the associated factors that contribute to the process.

For your research paper in this class, you will need to find sources relating to

  • a type of pathology or malady
  • the modalities used in a patient
  • other factors such as the cost of a procedure, the life expectancy of the patient, etc.

Please take a look at the following sources below that can help you complete this assignment.

Finding Research Articles Using Primo

Using Primo to Find Research Articles

To find research articles for this assignment, you can start by using our library discovery tool, Primo. Depending on what you are looking for, you can build a search using relevant keywords.

For example, if you wanted to know about the costs related to imaging technologies and life expectancy, you could use these keywords:

(Click on the keywords above to see an example search).  You can also add your specific disease to the search.

On the left-hand side of Primo, you will want to apply the following filters:

You will then need to browse the list of results and pick an article that covers the costs of a particular imaging modality and that covers your specific disease.

You will be able to tell if an article is peer-reviewed by the purple indicator below an article title:

You can also build a more comprehensive search using the Advanced Search in Primo:

If I wanted to know about the cost-effectiveness of different diagnostic imaging tests as related to life expectancy, this is what the search would look like:

After building this search, please make sure that you have the "Peer-reviewed Journals, "Articles" and your Date Range filters applied to narrow down the results.
