The print books needed for your research you can find in the Lewis University Library circulating and reference collections and through interlibrary loan via I-Share.
Books can give you background on a topic, basic knowledge, definitions, scope of the topic area, and important statistics and people in the discipline. Remember, just because your topic does not appear in the title of the book, does not mean it is not a useful resource. ex: A book titled "Genetics" could have a great chapter on cloning. You just have to look.
FINDING RESOURCES USING THE "TOPICS," OR "SUBJECT HEADINGS."
Every catalog/database/search engine has a "controlled vocabulary." This is a big term that simply means, all the information in that space have descriptors attached to them. This helps you find materials by moving from related title to related title. Below is an example of how this works in the catalog. Remember -- look for those subject terms/topic/subject headings. They can alleviate the "hunting and pecking" we do in the search box.

What is an CARLI EBL account?
EBL, which is provided to the Lewis University Library by CARLI (Consortium of Academic and Research Libraries in Illinois), is an Ebook Library of more than 30,000 ebooks.
Users may view titles for five minutes in a 24-hour period before a prompt appears to request a loan. Ebooks will have a 7 day “loan” period. Users may view content online, download it, or print it. 
EBL log-in accounts can only be created from an 'on-campus' location. Once you create an account, you will then be able to log-in remotely.
To set up an I-Share Account, use the link at the bottom of this box to access the form. A Lewis picture ID is required in order to establish an I-Share Account.
We recommend the following steps in filling out the form.
a. For Desired Username, use the first part of your Lewis email address.
b. For Password, we recommend using your nine digit student ID number.
c. For Borrower ID (Barcode Number), use the barcode found on the back of your Lewis photo ID.
d. If no barcode is evident, you will need to visit the library and request a barcode..
e. For "I-Share institution with which you are affiliated" choose Lewis University.
