Company and Industry Profiles

The databases below include industry and company profiles. Learn as much as you can about your target companies. That way, you'll be prepared when you're writing your resume and cover letter and (hopefully!) answering questions at an interview.

Business Source Complete

To search for companies in a specific geographic location:

  • In the blue bar at the top of the window, click on Company Information.
  • Skip the search box (don't enter a company name).
  • Under Limit Your Results, select a country or state and/or enter a city or zip code.

OR

Use the MSA Name dropdown menu to select a metropolitan area.

  • Click the Search button at the bottom of the page.
  • Sort your list by company name, city, state, country, or revenue.
  • Click the icon on the far right of your list to download an Excel or CSV file.

Nexis Uni

Use this database to find:

  • Corporate hierarchy
  • Company size/number of employees
  • Key players and bios
  • Locations
  • Financial status
  • Recent news and events

Narrowing Your Company Search

For a more focused version of your geographic list, follow the directions above but fill in additional information on the search page, including the following:

  • Number of employees (minimum or maximum)
  • Industry (keyword or NAICS code)
  • Sales/Revenue

For a more focused version of your geographic list, follow the instructions above, but take advantage of these additional filters:

  • Change the dropdown menu next to the search box to Keyword Search and enter terms related to your preferred industry or type of business.
  • Limit by number of employees (maximum or minimum)
  • Limit by NAICS code of your preferred industry.
