Creating a Company List

The library has two different databases that you can use to search for companies by location, as well as other attributes. We recommend trying both to see how the results match up. If you're looking to relocate to a big city, you'll need to be as specific as possible, targeting individual zip codes. If you're looking at a suburb or small town, you may want to broaden your search to neighboring areas to increase your options

Creating a Company List Using Nexis Uni

To search for companies in a specific geographic location:

  • Click on Create a Company List
  • At the bottom of the page, enter the country, state, city and/or zip code of your desired geographic area and click Create.

TIP: The database will not process more than 100,000 results; therefore, you'll need to narrow your search if you're interested in an city like Chicago or New York City. Try searching by zip code. (You can always do multiple searches and then combine your results offline.)

  • Choose your preferred method of sorting your list (by company type, alphabetically by company name, etc.) and select what information you'd like to be included in your list.
  • Download your list as an Excel spreadsheet or CSV file.
