The goals of this tutorial are:

  • ▪ Provide nursing students with a remote instructional tool for online resources available at Lewis University Library
  • ▪ Promote competency in the fundamentals of information literacy based on the Information Literacy   Competency Standards for Nursing*
  • ▪ Complement classroom instruction with learning modules for remote users
  • ▪ Provide an overview of conducting Library Research in Nursing.
  • * Standards approved by the AACN and the ACRL (2013)

Tutorial Instructions

Tutorial and Assessment Quiz

This is a self-paced tutorial covering three modules. You are to review these three modals over the first three weeks of this course, and complete the Library Assessment Quiz by the due date found in the course syllabus' class schedule. You may refer to the library tutorial as you complete the quiz.  The quiz is found in Week 3 of the Blackboard shell.  

Module 1 covers beginning library research in nursing, including searching in Primo and using the CINAHL Complete database. 

Module 2 covers information about APA citation style and the significance of the DOI.

Module 3 covers how to use RefWorks.  


At the end of this guide are example search strategies for common nursing research assignments.
