Welcome to Lewis University! This is an introductory orientation to Lewis Library and the many services we offer!

Things to Know About the Library

THINGS TO KNOW ABOUT THE LEWIS LIBRARY

(THAT WILL MAKE YOUR LIFE EASIER -- GUARANTEED!)

Does the Library have textbooks you can borrow (instead of renting or buying from the campus bookstore)?

The short answer is No. The Library does not have current textbooks in our collection.  If your professor puts a book on reserve at the Library, they will let you know it is on reserve at the Library.

Where to find the Library building

The Library occupies the 1st and 2nd floors of the Br. Paul French, FSC, Learning Resource Center a.k.a. the LRC. (The big brick building you would run into if you went straight instead of turning when the road ends at the entrance to campus).

Monthly calendar   When you can come into the Library building

We are usually open every day except during holidays and breaks. The usual operating hours and exceptions are on our webpage: Library Homepage.

Clock   When you can search for Library Materials (like articles)

Anytime. You have 24/7 access to millions of electronic articles, thousands of eBooks and searching for physical materials via the Library website. Sign in with the same username and password you use to sign in to MyLewis.

When a Research Librarian is available to help you

Research librarians are available via chat, email, phone, text message, and in person. For in-depth assistance, you can make an appointment for a consultation with a research librarian at Schedule a Research Appointment.

Head with gears   Where can you study

  • The First floor is open for flexible study spaces. Feel free to study alone or with others.

  • Second Floor:

    • The area around the open well and the nook by the window has flexible study spaces. Feel free to study alone or with others.

    • The North end is a designated quiet study space (whispered tones, very brief conversations only). This area is best for individual study or groups sitting together but studying silently or with minimal talking.

    • The South end has study carrels that are popular for individual study and tables for collaborative studying.

    • Study Rooms/Pods:

      • Group study rooms (minimum of 2 people) for collaborative work.

      • Individual Study Pods

      • Group Study Rooms and Individual Study pods are available on a drop-in basis or can be reserved online via the Library website: Reserve a Study Space.

   What is Super Study?

During the last two weeks of each semester (a.k.a. Super Study), the Library collaborates with groups on campus to offer additional stress relief activities such as coloring pages and craft activities when you need a study break. We have a puzzle station on each floor to help you relax and improve your problem-solving skills. (Watch our socials to find out about visits from our therapy dog!).

   How to borrow books

Your Lewis ID card is also your Library card. You can check out print books at Lewis and request Library materials through our interlibrary loan program called I-Share.  All I-Share materials will be delivered to the Romeoville campus.

Internet   Where to find computers/printers/scanners in the Library

On the first floor of the Library, there are over 50 computer stations (these are directly connected to printers), scanners, black-and-white printers, and a color printer. Students using a laptop or mobile device can print remotely using PaperCut, which you can find under resources in MyLewis.

Dance  When we have stress relief activities & other events at the Library

We offer fun events and activities throughout the semester. Check our newsletter on the library home page & our social media posts to get notifications of upcoming events. We’re on Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter (@lewisulibrary).
