Open Source alternative to MATLAB: FreeMat FreeMat is a free environment for rapid engineering and scientific prototyping and data processing. It is similar to commercial systems such as MATLAB from Mathworks, and IDL from Research Systems, but is Open Source. FreeMat is available under the GPL license.
Open Source alternative to MATLAB: Genius Mathematics Tool Genius is a general purpose calculator program similar in some aspects to BC, Matlab, Maple or Mathematica. It is useful both as a simple calculator and as a research or educational tool. The syntax is very intuitive and is designed to mimic how mathematics is usually written. GEL is the name of its extension language, it stands for Genius Extension Language, clever isn't it? In fact, many of the standard genius functions are written in GEL itself.
Open Source alternative to MATLAB: GNU Octave From Opensource.com: GNU Octave may be the best-known alternatives to MATLAB. In active development for almost three decades, Octave runs on Windows, Mac, and Linux alike, and is packaged for most major distributions. If you're looking for a project that is as close to the actual MATLAB language as possible, Octave may be a good fit for you; it strives for exact compatibility, so many of your projects developed for MATLAB may run in Octave with no modification necessary.

Open Source alternative to MATLAB: Sagemath from Opensource.com: An open source mathematics software system which might be a good option for those seeking a MATLAB alternative. Built on top of a variety of well-know Python-based scientific computing libraries, and its own language is syntactically similar to Python. It has many features, including a command-line interface, browser-based notebooks, tools for embedding formulas in other documents, and of course, many mathematical libraries.
Open Source alternative to MATLAB: Scilab from Opensource.com: ...another open source option for numerical computing which runs across all of the major platforms: Windows, Mac, and Linux included. Scilab perhaps the best known alternative outside of Octave, and like Octave, it is very similar to MATLAB in its implementation, although exact compatibility is not a goal of the project's developers.

ACM Journal - Digital Government: Research and Practice Digital Government: Research and Practice (DGOV) is an interdisciplinary Gold Open Access journal that focuses on the potential and impact of technology on governance innovations and its transformation of public institutions. It promotes applied and empirical research from academics, practitioners, designers, and technologists, using political, policy, social, computer, and data sciences methodologies.
ACM Journal - Digital Threats: Research and Practice Digital Threats: Research and Practice (DTRAP) is a peer-reviewed Gold Open Access journal that targets the prevention, identification, mitigation, and elimination of digital threats. DTRAP aims to bridge the gap between academic research and industry practice. Accordingly, the journal welcomes manuscripts that address extant digital threats, rather than laboratory models of potential threats, and presents reproducible results pertaining to real-world threats.
ACM Journal - Formal Aspects of Computing Formal Aspects of Computing: Applicable Formal Methods (FAC) is a Gold Open Access journal publishing contributions at the junction of theory and practice. The objective is to disseminate applicable research. Thus, new theoretical contributions are welcome where they are motivated by potential application; applications of existing formalisms are of interest if they show something novel about the approach or application.
Algebraic Combinatorics This is the home page of Algebraic Combinatorics, an electronic journal of mathematics owned by its Editorial Board and Editors-in-Chief. It is dedicated to publishing high-quality papers in which algebra and combinatorics interact in interesting ways. There are no limitations on the kind of algebra or combinatorics: the algebra involved could be commutative algebra, group theory, representation theory, algebraic geometry, linear algebra, Galois theory, associative or Lie algebras, among other possibilities. The combinatorics could be enumerative, coding theory, root systems, design theory, graph theory, incidence geometry or other topics. The key requirement is not a particular subject matter, but rather the active interplay between combinatorics and algebra. Algebraic Combinatorics adheres to the principles of Fair Open Access, and is a member of the Free Journal Network.

Discrete Analysis Journal Discrete Analysis is a mathematical journal that aims to publish articles that are analytical in flavour but that also have an impact on the study of discrete structures. The areas covered include (all or parts of) harmonic analysis, ergodic theory, topological dynamics, growth in groups, analytic number theory, additive combinatorics, combinatorial number theory, extremal and probabilistic combinatorics, combinatorial geometry, convexity, metric geometry, and theoretical computer science. As a rough guideline, we are looking for papers that are likely to be of genuine interest to the editors of the journal. The Journal of Problem Solving (JPS) The Journal of Problem Solving (JPS) is a multidisciplinary journal that publishes empirical and theoretical papers on mental mechanisms involved in problem solving. The journal welcomes original and rigorous research in all areas of human problem solving, with special interest in those difficult problems in which human beings outperform artificial systems. JPS encourages submissions from psychology, computer science, mathematics, operations research, and neuroscience.
PeerJ Computer Science PeerJ Computer Science is an Open Access, peer-reviewed, scholarly journal. It considers articles across the whole of Computer Science. PeerJ Computer Science only considers Research Articles. PeerJ Computer Science evaluates articles based only on an objective determination of scientific and methodological soundness, not on subjective determinations of 'impact' or 'readership' for example.
Proceedings of the AMS, Series B This gold open access electronic-only journal is devoted to shorter research articles (not to exceed 15 published pages) in all areas of pure and applied mathematics. To be published in the Proceedings, Series B, a paper must be correct, new, and significant.

Co-founded in New York City by Jim and Marilyn Simons, the foundation celebrated its 20th anniversary in 2014. The Simons Foundation at its core exists to support basic — or discovery-driven — scientific research, undertaken in pursuit of understanding the phenomena of our world.
Representation Theory This electronic-only journal is devoted to research in representation theory and seeks to maintain a high standard for exposition as well as for mathematical content.
Transactions of the AMS, Series B This gold open access electronic-only journal is devoted to research articles in all areas of pure and applied mathematics
The Épijournal de Géometrie Algébrique Épijournal de Géométrie Algébrique publishes original research articles written in English or French. The scope of the journal covers algebraic geometry in a broad sense, including complex or arithmetic geometry, algebraic groups and representation theory. It also aims at promoting the Épisciences platform. Peer-review Process The quality of the articles submitted to Épijournal de Géométrie Algébrique is assessed along a classical peer-review process (single-blind peer-review process). One editor is in charge of the article and chooses one or several reviewers to give their assessment (within at most 3 months). According to these reports, the editor makes up his or her mind about the article. In case of a positive opinion, the other editors are informed. The final decision is taken commonly. During 30 days the other editors can consult the reports and give their (argued) opinion concerning the acceptance of the article. After this one-month notice period, the author is informed of the final decision. Original Material Épijournal de Géométrie Algébrique publishes original studies that have not been published elsewhere. Any form of plagiarism would imply rejection of the article.

Our journals have been published since 1891 and cover a broad range of mathematics. Each journal is managed by editors who are prominent in their fields, and each is unique in its offering of articles, book reviews, and reports. In addition to publishing and distributing printed journals, the AMS offers searchable electronic versions that are available prior to the print versions. When the journal is available in electronic format, the electronic version is considered the version of record.
